Welcome to the Twist and Solve Cube Lessons page! This is where the magic begins. Whether you're brand new to cubing or you've been twisting away at random hoping for a breakthrough, you're in the right place.
Before we jump into the lessons, there are just a couple of things to get ready so you can make the most of your training:
If you already have a cube—great! If not, we’ve got some helpful tips. Not all cubes are created equal, and for beginners especially, the type of cube you use can make a big difference. We recommend starting with a smooth-turning, medium tightness cube, which makes practicing the moves easier and way more enjoyable, we want to be able to turn without too much friction, but also want moves to be easy to complete (Also less hand cramping, more success!).
For a great beginner-friendly option, we suggest picking one up from Smyths Toys. They usually stock some reliable, well-priced cubes that are perfect for learning.
There are a couple of key moves you’ll want to get familiar with ahead of time. We call them Leftie and Rightie—fun names for simple but essential sets of cube rotations. These are some of the key building blocks of the entire solving method.
It’s super important to practice these two moves until you can perform them smoothly and confidently. Even one missed twist during a lesson could mean having to go back and reset the cube. But don’t worry—we’ll show you exactly how they work, and with a little practice, they’ll become second nature in no time.
